Welcome to our website and CONGRATULATIONS - you are already on the road to becoming an Advanced Driver.

There is no magic to 'Advanced Driving'  -  Drivers already possess knowledge and skill otherwise they would never get from A to B.
Advanced driving is just honing those skills with a more in depth study of methods, combined with concentration and observation.  The main objective is to become more aware of other drivers, your capabilities and to promote road safety.

One of the major organisations to promote this skill is the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) through its Advanced Drivers and Riders Association. Groups of like-minded drivers exist all over the country, each with the same aim -- to share their knowledge and give their time to prepare prospective advanced drivers to take the RoSPA Advanced Driving Test.
Join our group and as soon as we are able we will allocate an Observer to you who will accompany you in your own car and who will pass on to you the skills and techniques necessary to pass the Advanced Driving Test.

The test is conducted in your own car by an examiner who is either a retired or serving Police Officer holding a Class 1 Police Driving Certificate. 
Passes are graded as Gold, Silver or Bronze and a detailed written report on the test is given to you. Gold and Silver grades are subject to a retest every three years but Bronze holders are encouraged to re-test every twelve months until the Silver or Gold standard is achieved.

What does this all cost?
To join the local group the cost is currently £10.00. The fee for taking the test is £48.00. The fee is paid to RoSPA at the time we enter you for your test.  As there is no charge for working with one of our Observers we do ask you to lodge this fee with us before your observed runs begin as a gesture of your good intent. Once you are a full member of RoSPA Advanced Drivers' Association an annual fee of £17.50 is payable, which gives you a bi-monthly newspaper and covers the cost of your retest.

On a lighter side? The Norfolk and Norwich group meet on the 4th Wednesday of each month in Cringleford (excluding August and December). The meetings usually centre around a speaker, generally having a topic associated with driving, road safety or local interest. We have a chat, a raffle and refreshments, we have a laugh or two and share our problems and opinions.
